Computer Science Distinguished Scholars

Distinguished Scholars Program (CS)

The Computer Science Distinguished Scholars Program (CSDS) is for first-year students who demonstrate academic excellence with an interest in pursuing a Computer Science major. The program accepts approximately 30 incoming first-year students to participate each year. 

Benefits of the Program:

  • A reserved seat in CSCI pre-major classes (e.g. CSCI 141, CSCI 145, CSCI 241, CSCI 247, and CSCI 301) as dictated by the program. 
  • Monthly gatherings with a focus on providing students with opportunities for internships, research experiences and leadership. Many of these events will showcase successful Western graduates from Mathematics and Computer Science.  
  • Active advising with faculty beginning in the first year, including the formulation of a four year graduation plan. 

Criteria for Applicants:

  • First-Year Student
  • 3.0+ GPA
  • Academic interest in Computer Science
