Year, Quarter	Checklist
Year 1 (quarter 1, 2, 3)	Quarter 1: Meet with graduate advisor to discuss your Plan of Study and receive approval Choose a research topic and advisor. You may start your 692 in year 2 if you choose to take 3 692s. You need to complete the 692 research project form before you can sign up for 692 for the first time.
Year 2 (quarter 4, 5, 6)	Requirements and deadlines for applying for graduation Quarter 5: Discuss your graduation plan with your research advisor. Fill out the Degree Application form by the deadline. Quarter 6: Present your 692 work in CSCI 591. Fill out the Degree Recommendation (non-thesis) form by the deadline. Along with the Degree Recommendation form, submit these.

A temporary policy related to graduate students signing up for a stacked course:

Rationale for this policy: To avoid students doing themselves a disservice by taking a grad version of the course that is not significantly different than the undergrad version of the course, which is the case with stacked courses. The policy prevents that by default but allows exceptions on a case-by-case basis. This policy will no longer be in effect when the undergrad and grad courses are unstacked.

Policy: By default, graduate students who have taken the equivalent undergrad course are not allowed to later take the graduate course if either of the courses is offered in a stacked format. That is, if a graduate student has credit for an undergrad course, they cannot get credit for the graduate course if either of the courses is offered in a stacked format. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis by the approval of the course instructor.
