Mission Statement
The mission of the Computer Science Department is to provide the highest quality education in computer science; to perform research that advances the state-of-the-art in computer science; to produce graduates that are knowledgeable, articulate, principled, innovative, confident, and able to think critically; to be engaged in local, state, and national issues to the benefit of both the public and private sector; and to maintain a diverse college community.
Program Educational Objectives
Within a few years of graduation, graduates of the Data Science program will:
- Achieve professional excellence through rewarding employment in industry or the pursuit of advanced education.
- Be effective communicators and collaborators as members and leaders of diverse and multidisciplinary teams.
- Pursue continuous professional growth by acquiring and applying new knowledge, skills, and technologies to advance their careers.

Student Outcomes
Graduates of the Data Science program will have an ability to:
- Analyze a complex computing problem and apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
- Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
- Apply theory, techniques, and tools throughout the data science lifecycle and employ the resulting knowledge to satisfy stakeholders’ needs.
