Cybersecurity

Mission Statement

The mission of the Computer Science Department is to provide the highest quality education in computer science; to perform research that advances the state-of-the-art in computer science; to produce graduates that are knowledgeable, articulate, principled, innovative, confident, and able to think critically; to be engaged in local, state, and national issues to the benefit of both the public and private sector; and to maintain a diverse college community.

Program Educational Objectives

Within five years of graduation, graduates of Cybersecurity will:

  1. Consider and apply solutions across the broad spectrum of the cybersecurity domain.
  2. Demonstrate solid technical depth within their chosen focus of cybersecurity.
  3. Exhibit thoughtful formal and informal leadership and management skills.
  4. Apply cybersecurity principles within an appropriate societal, business, and social context. 

Student Outcomes

Graduates of the cybersecurity program will have an ability to:

  1. Analyze a complex cybersecurity problem and to apply principles of cybersecurity and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a technical solution to meet a given set of security requirements.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in cybersecurity practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to cyber security.
  6. Apply security principles and practices across the broad range of the cybersecurity field to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats.
