To run this, you will need the free VMplayer from vmware.com. You will have to register to get a copy of VMplayer. 7z442.exe is provided for you to install 7zip if you don't have it already. Enjoy! Steps to get this ready to go: 1) Get VMplayer from vmware.com. 2) Install VMplayer. 3) Run 7z442.exe to install 7zip. 4) Extract the NetBSD-ldc.7z file by doing a right click, 7-zip->extract here. 5) Browse to the NetBSD-ldc folder. 6) Double click on NetBSD-ldc.vmx to run VMplayer What to do when running VMplayer: 1) Create a user: type in your user name and password Click "create" 2) Continue to run by clicking "continue" 3) login using the user you created 4) Click on the world will bring up a konqueror browser and open www.cs.wwu.edu/nelson. 5) Select "UNIX Resources" 6) Click on the html version of the getting started document. (first line.) 7) Open a terminal: K->utilities->terminal 8) experiment using commands in the terminal about which you can read in on the web. Notes: root password is changeme Image starts you with kde. It should have gnome although it is not tested. To stop NetBSD type in a terminal: shutdown -hp now firefox has flash installed. Other browsers don't. Sound currently doesn't work but it is possible to get it to work with some effort. First time you run it, it will ask you to create a user. That user will be added to the "wheel" group and can su to root and can also run shutdown without a password. If you use the "suspend" feature of VMware, your time may get out of sync. To fix it, you can run sudo ntpdate 140.160.140.1 The command "sudo bash" runs bash as the Super User which allows you to do anything you want ... Other questions?
